NORFOLK, VA – The United States College Athletic Association released the Coaches Poll Week 8 Rankings on Wednesday and Villa Maria College women's basketball earned enough votes to get back to the No. 1 stop. The Vikings spent multiple weeks at no. 2 but jumped over Central Maine Community College after continuing their impressive play.
Over the past few weeks, Villa has defeated two Division I, top-15 teams. On Jan. 11 the Vikings defeated Bryant and Stratton-Albany, who was ranked no. 12 at the time, 83-47. Ten days later, the women's basketball team dominated the then no. 11 ranked Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse, walking away with an 81-57 victory. Most recently, the Vikings traveled to ASA College and were impressive and won 82-59.
So far this season, the team has compiled a 15-2 record.
Dakaylah Winfield has been impressive this season making 14 starts and playing in all 17 games. She is averaging 14.9 points per game, 5.3 assists per game and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Norvonee Hall has been a consistent fixture in the low post recording 12.4 points per game, while collecting 8.5 rebounds per game.
Bianca Brown and
Ta Lia Burgess both average double figures scoring as well with Brown tallying 10.8 and Burgess adding 10.3.
Multiple Vikings rank amongst the top in a variety of statistical categories. Hall sits at no. 8 in field goal percentage with a .507 average. Winfield ranks no. 1 in three-point percentage with an impressive average of .474. Brown and Burgess also rank in the top-15 with Brown hitting a .367 average to put her at no. 10, while Burgess hits for a .365 average to sit at no. 12. Winfield has been impressive distributing the ball, and it has her at no. 5 in assists per game.

Villa will hit the road for their next game on Saturday, Feb. 1 as they take on Penn State New Kensington. The game is set to tip-off at 1 p.m.
