Villa Uses Big Second Half To Defeat Bobcats, 81-57

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team hosted Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse on Wednesday and used an incredible second-half to run away with the game and eventually win by a score of 81-57. The Vikings now hold a 14-2 mark on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 5-9 on the year. 
 
Norvonee Hall was the first to strike, making a pair of free-throws to put the team up, but the Bobcats quickly responded with a pair of three-pointers. The opposition held a lead until Dakaylah Winfield knocked down a three of her own to even up the score. As the first quarter ended, Jordon Wright converted a layup before Precious Adamson tied the game at 12 with a free-throw as time expired. The second frame saw a similar turn of events with both teams trading leads and in the final minutes, Taliah Bush had a consistent presence in the post grabbing rebounds and making jump shots and layups. As the two units headed into halftime both teams were tied at 30-30. 
 
The Vikings began their big run in the third quarter with 4:31 to play and the score tied, 39-39. Winfield kicked it off with a jump shot before Adamson followed with a move in the paint. Tekia Gary continued the scoring with a layup of her own and moments later Wright knocked down a fast break layup. Bianca Brown pushed the run to 12-0 after making two layups heading into the fourth quarter. Brown continued the scoring stretch in the beginning of the final frame by knocking down a jumper and then a three-pointer to put Villa up 56-39. The Bobcats pushed back to cut their deficit to 12, but the Vikings defense began to create more pressure. Winfield. Norvonee Hall and Brown had three consecutive steals that led to three fast break layups which pushed them ahead by 18 points. As the final horn sounded, Villa walked away with an impressive 81-57 win. 
 
The Vikings outscored the Bobcats 21-9 in the third quarter and 30-18 in the fourth quarter. Brown led the way with 24 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds and recording five steals. Hall had a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points, three steals and three blocks. As a team, Villa collected 19 steals and forced 27 turnovers. 
 
The women's basketball team head on the road this weekend as they take on ASA College on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
