BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team are a few days away from starting the 2019-2020 season and it is set to be an exciting campaign. The Vikings will be under the control of a new coaching staff and have new faces on the court.
Villa welcomes new head coach
Michael McCarthy who has over 10 years of experience in coaching and skills training. Joining him is
Victor Arroyo who has coached at a variety of levels since 2011. In addition, former Viking
Shaquana Owens will be a part of the staff as she aims to be a part of the continued growth and success of the program.
The unit will lean on four returners for their impact on and off the court. Seniors
Bianca Brown and
Tekia Gary both enter their third year as Vikings, while
Hannah Day and
Taliah Bush prepare for year two. They are joined by a host of new talent and their experience will be important.
At the guard position,
Dakaylah Winfield,
Ta Lia Burgess and Jordan Wright, all have shown potential on the court and will be asked to provide important depth both in the starting lineup and off the bench. At the forward spot,
Estella Anderson,
Norvonee Hall and
Precious Adamson all of the ability to make a difference on both sides of the ball.
The season begins with three games in three days for the Vikings, with the first being a home opener. Villa will host Main Fork Kent on Saturday, Nov. 9 with the game set to start at 2 p.m.
