Vikings Notch Fourth Straight Victory

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team were in complete control of their matchup on Saturday against Penn State Greater Alleghany. After grabbing the lead after the opening tip, the Vikings won their fourth straight game by a score of 96-86. With the win, Villa moves to 4-0, while the Lions drop to 1-3 on the year. 
 
Norvonee Hall got the scoring started with a three-point play a minute into the game. After a brief run by the opposition, Estella Anderson reclaimed the lead with a layup, before Bianca Brown hit a three to push that team advantage to 14-9. Jordon Wright finished the quarter scoring four straight points to give Villa a 25-18 lead after the first ten minutes. 
 
In the second quarter, the Vikings used a 21-2 run to blow the game open. The scoring started with two made free-throws by Wright, before a Precious Adamson layup pushed the score to 36-30 at the 3:21 mark. The advantage grew to double digits when Dakaylah Winfield knocked down a three-pointer to put the team up 12. Hall ended the final minute of play with two layups off of steals and when the halftime horn went off, Villa was up 53-32. 
 
The offensive production continued in the third quarter, with the Vikings scoring 30 points in ten minutes. Made shots by Tekia Gary, kept the team ahead by 20 or more throughout the quarter. Two made free-throws by Adamson at the end of the quarter gave Villa a 31-point lead, their largest of the afternoon. Penn State made a run of their own outscoring the Vikings 34-12 in the final quarter of play. The team held on however, and took home the 95-86 victory. 
 
Four Vikings finished with double-digit scoring, with Winfield leading the pack with 21 points. She also collected four assists and three steals. Hall continues her dominant play, scoring 17 points, while grabbing eight rebound and swatting away three shots. Wright and Adamson combined for 23 points off the bench and grabbed 12 rebounds. 
 
The Vikings will compete in the Buffalo State Tournament on Friday, Nov. 22 when they play Thiel College at 1 p.m.
