#2 Villa Hits the Road to Take on Genesee on Wednesday

Cougars enter matchup with 7-2 record

The Matchup: #2 Villa Maria (7-2) at Genesee Community College (7-2)

TIP-OFF NOTES
  • This is the 6th all-time meeting between the Vikings and Cougars.  Villa is 5-0 in the series.
  • Villa enters Wednesday's matchup with a 7-2 overall record and are ranked #2 in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II National Coaches Poll.
  • Villa has won six straight games, all by double-figures.  All but one of those six have been by at least 34 points.
  • This marks Villa's fifth consecutive road game and will end it's road trip on Friday before returning home on Sunday, December 9th for the first time in 23 days.

ABOUT GENESEE
  • Genesee has already matched last season's win total, entering Wednesday's matchup with a 7-2 record.
  • Six of seven wins have been by double-figures.
  • The Cougars are averaging 78.0 points per game and allowing just 55.
  • They are led offensively by TaLia Burgess who is averaging 17.9 points per game and shooting nearly 41 percent from three.
  • As a team, Genesee is shooting 44.2 percent from the field and holding opponents to 35.4 percent.
  • Genesee has five players averaging in double-figures.

THE VIKINGS
  • After starting the season 1-2, Villa has won six straight games by a total of 210 points.
  • They are coming off a pair of wins in New York City this past weekend after they defeated The King's College 91-39 on Saturday, and the College of New Rochelle 86-43 on Sunday.
  • Leading the way offensively is senior Shaquana Owens.  She is averaging a double-double, scoring 18 points and securing 10.4 rebounds per game.  She is also dishing out 6.9 assists per game and has 22 steals and 10 blocks this season.
  • Sophomore guard Armoni Jordan is the team's leading scorer off the bench (14.9 ppg).  In 24 minutes per game, she is averaging 6.1 rebounds and is shooting 50.5 percent from the floor.  
  • Junior Chmicka Kennedy is the third Viking averaging in double-figures.  She is scoring 11.6 points per game and dishing out 6.6 assists.  She is also averaging 5.8 rebounds and has racked up a team-best 32 steals.
  • Junior starters Bianca Brown and Tekia Gary have combined to score more than 18 points per game.  Brown is averaging 2.6 assists while Gary is securing 2.3 rebounds and has 17 steals.
  • Contributing solid play as well is another pair of juniors as Nina Cray is averaging 8.4 points and 6.6 rebounds.  She has blocked nine shots.  Leah McQuiller is having the best season of her career, scoring 6.4 points off the bench and averaging nearly four boards.
