BUFFALO, NY - Despite holding a six-point lead midway through the second half, the #6 Villa Maria Vikings were unable to maintain their edge, dropping a neutral site contest to top-ranked and defending United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Champion, Central Maine 93-69 on Saturday evening. The game was played at the Sage Colleges in Albany, NY.
Villa (15-5) was led by sophomore
Bianca Brown who finished with 17 points, while
Nina Cray finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Shaquana Owens struggled from the field but still managed to record a double-double, scoring 10 points and securing 13 rebounds to go along with five assists. Sophomore
Tekia Gary chipped in double-figures as well off the bench, scoring 12 points in 21 minutes.
Central Maine (19-1) was led by junior Brooke Reynolds with 20 points and seven rebounds. The Mustangs held the edge in points in the paint (56-40), second chance points (26-16), and bench points (34-19). Villa forced 20 Central Maine turnovers and had 14 steals.
The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they face SUNY Canton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
