DEPEW, NY - In the most entertaining game of the Villa Maria soccer season, the Vikings had multiple scoring chances in the final minutes but couldn't quite cash in as they dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0 to Carlow University on Saturday afternoon at Rehm Road Park.
The Vikings (0-4) registered five shots in the second half while sophomore goalkeeper
Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge) did everything he could to keep his team alive.  Sophomore
Doug Martin (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) recorded two shots in the second half.  The first came in the 57th minute as Carlow goalkeeper Kosi Agbevor made a diving save.  The next came four minutes later on a free kick.  The ball went above the keeper and hit off the crossbar.
Six minutes later, freshman Jorflan Soba had his shot go wide of the net.  Villa's best scoring chance of the game came in the 86th minute by sophomore
Lian Thluhlawng (Tonawanda, NY/I-Prep Grover).  His header off a beautiful corner kick by freshman
Lian Thang was saved by Agbevor once again.
Douglas was once again phenomenal in net - making 22 saves - increasing his season total to 83.
The Vikings begin a three game road trip to close out the season, beginning on Monday, October 10th against SUNY Adirondack at 4 p.m.
