BUFFALO, NY - The Villa Lady Vikings rebounded nicely after their first loss of the season, securing the team's third USCAA victory of the season by defeating Penn State DuBois 80-62 on Friday evening at the Villa Athletic Center.
With the win, the Lady Vikings improve to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in USCAA play. Â Five players scored in double figures and three recorded double-doubles in the total team victory. Â Junior
Tia Onipede (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) led the way with 21 points.
The Lady Vikings jumped out of the gates, out-scoring Penn State 21-6 en route to a 19-point first half advantage. Â Junior
Jayvonna Kincannon (Buffalo, NY/McKinley) finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists as she nearly reached a double-double in the first half. Â
Freshman
Naomi Walker (Buffalo, NY/McKinley) and
Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) also recorded double-doubles. Â Walker finished with a career-high 12 points and matched her career-high in rebounds with 11. Â Owens finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.
Senior guard
Magan Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) scored 14 points and added 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Â
Aaliyah Fulton (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) and
Lajanai Thomas (Kenosha, WI/Burgers) combined to chip in seven points off the bench. Â Villa forced Penn State into 29 turnovers and only allowed them to shoot 31.4 percent from the floor.
The Lady Vikings are back in action on Monday when they host the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville at 6 p.m.
